In the past, radiology workflow was dictated by its applications, with manual processes developed to support limited technology and compensate for the gaps between systems. Today, it is more common to design an optimal workflow model and expect technology and supporting applications to accommodate it.

In this paper, we examine how the challenges of traditional radiology workflow are resolved by adopting electronic data exchanges and leveraging HL7 interfaces and other data standards. The result: improved service delivery, greater customer loyalty, and efficiencies leading to improved profitability.
